HST201 - End of Week 1 REMINDERS

Hello students,

This is a long announcement, but it is important that we start the term off well.

The first week of class is coming to an end. 10% of the term is over. Here are some items that should be of interest to you.

CHAPTER 1 QUIZ

Your Chapter 1 Quiz is due TONIGHT, Friday, by 11:55pm. Remember, you can take the quizzes AS MANY TIMES AS YOU NEED to earn a score of 70% or better, by the deadline, to receive full credit. After I've entered those grades in the grade book, I will re-open the quiz for you to take as practice for the midterm exam.

The Chapter 2 Quiz is due on Monday, by 11:55pm. (Yes, the deadline occurs BEFORE we meet in class on Tuesday.)

MOODLE PROFILE IMAGE

Be sure to add an image to your Moodle profile, ALSO DUE by 11:55pm tonight. Easy points here.

TUITION REFUNDS

To receive a tuition refund, you must officially drop any one or all of your courses in MyLane by this coming Sunday evening, October 2nd, before midnight. I hope the first week in my class wasn't that bad, but if it was, be sure to get your money back.

MOODLE GRADEBOOK

The gradebook in Moodle is always up-to-date and accurate. Click the Grades link in Moodle to see your grade in the class. As of right now, that grade consists of whether you attended both days of class this past week, and if you completed the Week 1 Opinion Poll on time. Two more items are due TONIGHT, the Chapter 1 quiz and Moodle profile picture.

LECTURE IMAGES

I do NOT give my notes to students. College students need to take their own notes, but I definitely give you access to all of the images (pictures/charts/maps) I show in class. You will see a link in Moodle each week called Week # Lecture Images. I usually post these on Thursdays after class. The images for this past week are available now. Take a look. You will definitely see a number of these images on your midterm exam.

WEB VIDEOS

I've had no reports from students about having problems watching the 4 minute web video on the New World. Terrific !!! No technical issues. You will be required to view many more throughout the term, and the information they contain will certainly be applicable on exams.

HYBRID CLASS - READING INSTRUCTIONS - PRACTICE FORUM

All students should know that this is a hybrid U.S. History course. You've had your 3 credits during our class meetings on Tuesday and Thursday. Now, we go "online" to earn that 4th credit.

It is very important that you login to Moodle often, pay attention to the weekly instructions and links on the class homepage, and that you read all of the instructions, including announcements like this one, as well as the other items such as the forum guidelines and web pages linked to forum materials.

In preparation of our upcoming forum, which will be during the THIRD week of the term, I have made an optional practice forum available to all students in the Week 2 folder in Moodle. If you've never participated in a Moodle forum, now is your chance to practice, before our real, graded forum begins in Week 3. Be sure to read the How Forums are Graded instructions.

Before you come to class next Tuesday, you should have made at least one post in the practice forum (if you choose to participate). You will see a link in the forum to the materials (The Three History Students story and the Columbus Podcast - two different topics - choose the one that interests you most). You can start posting right now.

That's all for now. Glad to have you in class. Have a productive weekend. See you next Tuesday.
